Become Happier by Inviting Color into Your Life

Who ever said that colors were reserved for certain ages, people, or places?  While there may be history and traditions where color was left out of the lives of professional working women and mothers, the 21st century woman can live a life full of color.  I am a lifelong color enthusiast, which may be attributed to my roots in colorful Caribbean culture or my adult affinity for enlightening my wardrobe with color.  I believe that color has the ability to increase happiness and that it has a place in fashion, food, home décor, and beauty.  In this ode to color, I will highlight a few benefits of how color not only boosts a woman’s wardrobe but how it can boost one’s mood and mindset.

According to color psychology and theorists like Carl Jung, color can impact humans emotionally and psychologically, which in turn can impact our behaviors.  From business branding to the world of fashion, certain colors are associated with certain human moods.  For example, red is often associated with energy, excitement, and power while yellow is frequently associated with creativity, joy, and happiness.  As we think about color psychology, we can also observe similarities to color associations in nature and what we take into our bodies.  For instance, green is associated with growth and healing, likewise in nature, where many ingredients in medications and foods are found, we also find growth and healing.  So, with color being vastly interconnected in us and in the world around us, utilizing the power of color to stimulate or simulate a mood, attitude, or outcome by incorporating more color into our wardrobe sounds like a good idea right?
While many of us agree, color is often replaced by black (said by many to be the mix of all colors) in our wardrobes due to the slimming effects of black or black’s ability to make things less noticeable. Yet, in the age of a global health crisis and many other ills, a splash of color may be just the thing we need to generate more positivity. Colorful brands like that of Sophia Webster or a bright pair of Christian Louboutin’s can invite luxury into your life while also brightening up the world one fashionable footstep at a time.
The next time you step into your closet or embark on the wonderful journey of a shopping spree (albeit in person or online), consider adding a colorful item or two – you just might add positivity to your mood and the world around you!
